You Are Worth It
Lately I have been pondering the topic of identity. By Identity, I mean, who I am. Who I truly am. People often try to label me, and I’m sure you as well, and some of the labels are good.
Like:
Mom
Grandma
Wife
Friend
Gardener
Dog Mom
Christian
Christ follower
But sometimes the labels are not so good. Some people like to label me as these sorts of things:
Not enough
Worthless
Not important
Incompetent
Mean
And others that I’m sure you heard in your head. I know I had a few pop into my head that I’m not putting in writing.
Thoughts that make you wonder if you are worth it
Sometimes that is the place the labels come from, your own head and thoughts in your head.
Often, I think that is the hardest place to deal with- those thoughts in your head. I mean, where do they come from? And why do we even listen to them??
Well.. sometimes they come from painful memories.
Other times, they come from parents or important people in your life who said thoughtless things.
Very often, its the enemy of your soul saying terrible things that you believe are your own thoughts. They are not your own thoughts.
How do I know this?
I have dealt with it for a long time.
Intrusive thoughts. Depressive thoughts.
Negative thoughts. Anxious thoughts.
I don’t believe them any longer.
It’s taken me a long time and a lot of healing to understand some things.
- Those thoughts don’t have to dictate who I am.
- Those thoughts don’t have to dictate how I behave.
- Those thoughts have to go.
There are a lot of things I have done in order to get free of those thoughts and years of healing. Years of walking it out with the Lord and learning about what He says about me.
Do you wonder what He says about you? You can go to the Bible and find out because its all there.
Here are some to begin with:
I am accepted.
I am God’s child. (John 1:12)
I am a friend of Jesus Christ. (John 15:15)
I am secure.
I am free from condemnation. (Romans 8:1-2)
I am significant.
I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit. (John 15:15)
I am God’s workmanship. (Ephesians 2:10)
I am dearly loved by God. (2 Thessalonians 2:13)
Even with all the verses it took me a long time to be able to believe it. I had to reprogram my brain to the Truth. And even now there are some things that trigger those negative thoughts. I fall apart and spend some time praying and talking with God and trusted friends, and then come back to the Truth. It is taking much less time than it used to. For that I am so grateful!
What God says about me is the Truest thing.
And HE says I am worth it all.
