Your Grounding!

Your Grounding!

When I say “grounding”, what do you think of??

Are you like me and thought it was just some weird “Hippy-Dippy” thing? Or maybe you thought of electricity and that wire that was supposed to connect to the earth and keep the electricity from going anywhere it wanted..

Grounding
Is this what being Grounded means?

(Is that even what that wire does???!!!)

Maybe you thought it meant something that gardeners did in their magical way of growing plants. Who knows what it really means, its just what gardeners do.

Yea, I didn’t think much about it. I have read about it because it had to do with dirt and I like dirt. I noticed that I feel better after being in the dirt but I just thought it had to do with doing something physical or gardening. Gardening, I thought, makes me happy.

Turns out, gardening DOES make me happy. But not for that reason.

Your Grounding

Gardening makes me happy.

I am getting myself grounded.

What IS Grounding

I can hear you saying right now, so what the heck does that even mean??

Here it is:

Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to the discovery that bodily contact with the Earth’s natural electric charge stabilizes the physiology at the deepest levels, reduces inflammation, pain, and stress, improves blood flow, energy, and sleep, and generates greater well-being. Such effects are profound, systemic, and foundational, and often develop rapidly. Earthing is as simple as routinely walking barefoot outdoors and/or using inexpensive grounding systems indoors while sleeping or sitting, practices that restore a lost and needed electric connection with the Earth. Some 20 studies to date have reported intriguing evidence of wide and significant physiological improvements when the body is grounded vs. non-grounded. The research, along with numerous anecdotal reports, demonstrates that Earthing clearly deserves inclusion in the clinical practice of preventive, alternative, and lifestyle medicine and has great potential to render these approaches more effective.” (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1550830719305476)

Do you see all the benefits of grounding?? Apparently us, yes, me, “Hippy-Dippy” types are on to something!! Walking barefoot, getting our hands in the dirt and just spending time in nature really do have an effect on us!!

Hippy-Dippy Suggestions

Your Grounding
No. This isn’t me “back in the day”.

For me, as an energy healer, I have learned that I NEED to get out and touch the earth periodically. Last fall, I went to my Chiropractor in a bit of a funk. She asked if I had been doing any grounding and I said “ummmm nnooo… in a “what the hell are you suggesting” sort of way. She roller her eyes at me, as she does sometimes, and told me to try it. Later that night when I took my dogs for a walk, I did it. Just for a few minutes because the dogs are active, I slipped my shoes off, stretched my hands up and closed my eyes and just stood still. I literally felt the funk leaving me and felt so much better!!!

You don’t have to just get outside and touch the earth to receive these amazing benefits however. There are things you can do to get connected with the earth from where you are.

Here Are a Few Ideas

Young Living oils are my FAV!
  1. Essential oils. There is one specifically called “Grounding” that is so helpful! This oil helps to bring our emotions into order and remove blocks. Other oils that can be helpful are White Fir, Spruce, Ylang Ylang, Pine, Cedarwood, Angelica, and Juniper.  If you are interested in any of these oils, you can click here for my fav Essential Oils, Young Living.
  2. Get a plant or 2. Yes, just having a plant in your space has shown to have some good health benefits. It can reduce your chances of having depression, mental health issues and lowers your blood pressure. Just walking in an area with plants can do all this!!!
  3. Getting out in the garden will actually improve you sleep. I understand that because when I am done after a day in the yard, I’m exhausted, however thats not what I mean here. Studies have shown that its not the sun that guides our circadian rhythm’s. Its the earths magnetic and energy field. As long as you remain connected to the earth in some way, like with a plant in your workspace, it will help your sleep.
  4. Now this one surprised me. Going birdwatching and listening to birdsongs. I mean, what??!!!   Turns out, that seeing or hearing a new bird has the same, scientifically, impact on you as receiving a boost in your paycheck. Isn’t that surprising??!!!

Another Resource From an MD

These are a few ideas, but I found a book that can be helpful as well. Its called, “The Earth Prescription: Discover the healing Power of Nature with Grounding Practices for Every Season” by Dr. Laura Koniver. She has done the research and I found much of my above info on her website Intuition-Physician.com.  This book is now on my list to buy soon.

I have become a fan of hers and of grounding! The benefits are huge and, to be honest, I just like getting in the dirt. There is something about feeling the dirt in my fingers that makes me happy. Now, we all know why.

Need a little more help with those emotions and well-being? Message me. Let’s talk!
