You, Your House, and Good Boundaries

You, Your House, and Good Boundaries

Let’s talk boundaries. How do they go along with rejection? And why am I talking about them in connection with Valentine’s Day?? I mean, isn’t that the time to celebrate love and romance and relationships??!!! Sure, Valentine’s Day is a great time to talk about and celebrate healthy relationships. Its a great time to celebrate romance and love. Valentine’s Day is for love, of course!!

Sometimes tho, because we are human, flawed and imperfect, as one of my mentors likes to say, love and romance isn’t part of our personal Valentine’s Day. Instead we get rejection. Or Love Unreceived, Heartache or Betrayal. Lots of other negative emotions rather than the love and acceptance we desire.

Love yourself enough.

Boundaries will help us to stay at peace and manage ourselves well so that we can have a good healthy relationship. Boundaries say no to the slimeball, user who just wants what we have. Boundaries also say this is who I am and how I expect to be treated.

A good boundary allows for relationship on your terms. If a person shows themselves trustworthy, they can enter into your circle a little closer and a little closer. When trust is broken, back out to the outer rings.

You. Your House and Boundaries.

It was explained to me this way: If you were to picture yourself as a house, what would it look like?

A boundary-less house

Looking at you as a house, does your house have walls?  Do you have doors and windows?

What kind of doors and windows? Are there locks on them?

Can others come in? Do they have to ask?

Thinking now about that visual, can you see why you maybe need some healthy boundaries?

If your house doesn’t have walls, can you see why people can walk all over you? How about doors?  Windows? Anyone can just climb into your personal space without asking. Would you want anyone to just come on into your house whenever they want to?

No? Me neither.

Blessings,

Vicki
