A Refuge. God is a Refuge.

A Refuge. God is a refuge.
Many people now don’t believe that He is. Most of us have had no idea that God is our refuge. It hasn’t been taught to us.

We look for this or that to be their refuge, and the reality is that it isn’t. It’s just another thing. Another latest and greatest. We want the latest gadget, the latest bit of knowledge, or the latest theory. We want to know it all.
There is a hunger for the latest health fad or trend. Which usually leaves us just hungry. I have fallen into these things, too, I will admit. Some things work, and some just don’t.
What we are really looking for is a refuge. A place of safety. A place we can count on to be safe and secure.
My Kids’ Refuge:

I think about my kids and how they loved to build forts. Cardboard box forts. Blanket forts. Tree forts. Forts in the trees. Snow forts. Forts in the garage. Anywhere they could build a fort, they did.
It was a place of safety. Of closeness. They controlled who came in and who stayed out. They could be quiet in there and nap or read. Or it was a place that was “Home Base” in a battle of some kind.
It was a refuge for them.
In these days of uncertainty, who knows what to believe or who to believe anymore, I would sure love a fort. A refuge.
A place where I can know I am loved and treasured. I can turn to for Truth.
Refuge Because of the Truth:
As I was pondering this post today, in my quiet time this morning I found this scripture:
Psalm 60:4-5
“4You have set up a banner for those who fear You [with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder—a banner to shield them from attack],
A banner that may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
5 That Your beloved ones may be rescued,
Save with Your right hand and answer us.“
Because of the TRUTH.
God is Our Refuge:
God’s word is True. From the Beginning. It has been proven True over and over again. Lately, I have felt a pull towards setting up a banner of Truth in my posts. I read this Psalm this morning and felt the nudge.
It’s time to display the Truth in such a way that my “Beloved Ones may be rescued.”
You, my friends, family, and readers, are “Beloved Ones,” and I want you to be rescued. Brought into the place of refuge. Brought into a place of safety where you can know the Truth and live in peace.
He tells us in His Word that He is our refuge. He is our place of safety.
Psalm 62:8
Trust [confidently] in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us. Selah.
Psalm 5:11
But let all who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice, Let them ever sing for joy; Because You cover and shelter them, Let those who love Your name be joyful and exult in You.
And of course, Psalm 91:2
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”

If we can trust in Him, we can have refuge in Him. We can abide in a place of safety and with joy. We don’t have to worry about it all.
He gives us peace.
If you need me, I’ll be in my blanket fort reading a book…
